Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire, a quiet area situated in the West Island of Montreal is what you might call a "sleepy" area. Many people unfamiliar with the word often think that it's a separate island somewhere west of Montreal but in fact the West Island is home to every aspect of the city of Lachine west. Amanda Brugel is said to have been born on West Island. But this isn't the truth. Brugel became a young woman living in Courtice Ontario, just outside Oshawa. Her initial ambition was to pursue a career as an actress however, after a rapid increase in size, her friends could no longer dance with her. In an article published by The Toronto Star that she is 6'1" tall and wears heels. As I got bigger than my male dancers, I decided to quit. Many dancers make the transition into acting. As for the Brugel family, it was their drama teacher who nudged her in that direction. Teacher who recommended she try to get a role for the school's annual show. She tried out and was eventually cast as the lead of Anne of Green Gables. The show was granted the Fine Arts Talent Scholarship to take part in York University's Theater Program which she completed from the program in 2000, earning a bachelor's degree in Fine Arts. For the last twenty years, Brugel's work has been seen on both the small and large screen. She gained the most attention when she won her part as Rita in the acclaimed television show The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel is the only Canadian actor in the season 1 and only appeared at times.
